Why MAG?

You’ll enjoy working for MAG...

If you’ve read the statements from our staff you’ll sense a definite feel-good factor. We all work hard but we know it’s worth it because we’re making a difference to people’s lives.

With a global workforce made up of 40 different nationalities, you’ll see that we value diversity.

We really value commitment from our staff and we’re working very hard to give every employee the opportunity to develop their career at MAG.

• Today 75 per cent of all our Country Directors have been promoted from within MAG;

• More than 80 per cent of our senior technical personnel have been promoted internally;

• At HQ, more than a third of our employees have been promoted at least once.

We know that starting your career in international development can sometimes be tricky and that’s why we offer internships and volunteering opportunities at our Manchester HQ.

International staff

The majority of our international staff are appointed on open-ended contracts, offering you job security and the chance to develop with us.

MAG’s salaries are competitive and increase with service. Our salaries are fixed in sterling but we will convert to whichever currency your bank account is held. (Please note that MAG cannot be responsible for any fluctuations in exchange rates)

In recognition of the harsh conditions in some of our country programmes international staff in some designated MAG programmes will receive:
• A hardship allowance in addition to their monthly salary;
• Additional hardship leave depending on location

As well as your monthly salary, all International staff receive a cost of living allowance as a contribution to daily living costs. This is paid monthly with your salary.

Accommodation or the equivalent cost is provided in all locations.

In addition to statutory holidays, there is an annual leave entitlement of six weeks per annum which increases with service to eight weeks per annum.

MAG will provide you with three return flights home per year.

MAG will cover the cost of any visas, residency or work permits that you need for your deployment.

We hope you won’t get ill, but if you do you may receive MAG discretionary company sick pay.

MAG will provide you with comprehensive travel health advice appropriate for your deployment and we will cover any reasonable costs incurred in getting any necessary inoculations.

All international staff are automatically covered by MAG’s comprehensive insurance package including:
• Personal accident and medical expenses insurance;
• Death by natural causes insurance;
• Access to 24-hour medical assistance including evacuation and repatriation

MAG takes the health and welfare of all staff seriously and we recognize that working overseas can be physically and emotionally demanding. We have a range of initiatives in place that will assist you to manage your heath and welfare while you're working for MAG.

This includes pre-deployment medical assessments and travel health information, a health and welfare handbook offering advice and guidance on a wide range of related subjects including travel health, stress and personal safety. New staff deploying overseas will be issued with a First Aid Kit during their HQ induction

MAG is a member of Interhealth's Travel Well Plan that offers a range of benefits to all employees including access to the comprehensive Travel Health Advice Centre (THAC).
